How to use Orion
Orion is the CNIB appliance's assistant. Every page uses the same tools, so learn the chrome once and keep it across Chat and Data connections.
Tools in this bar
- High contrast — yellow and white on black. Shortcut: Alt+ plus H.
- Text size — 16px through 32px. Shortcuts: Alt+ plus +plus and Alt+ plus -minus.
- Width — Full uses the whole window (wide tables), Medium is a reading measure, Narrow is a single column for magnification. Remembered in this browser.
- Shortcuts — the full keyboard map. Shortcut: Alt+ plus K.
- Orion — the assistant, docked beside the page wherever it is offered: push to talk, hands-free or text; highlight text on the page to ask about it. Shortcut: Alt+ plus O.
Speaking to Orion
- Conversation — Orion listens the whole time. Speak, pause, and Orion answers. A pause under about two and a half seconds is part of your thought: Orion keeps listening and answers the whole of it. Talk over Orion to stop it. To talk to someone else in the room, press Pause listening (Alt+ plus P): Orion hears nothing until you resume, and the conversation stays open.
- Push to talk — you decide when a thought ends. Hold the speak button while you talk, or press it once to start and again to send. Pause as long as you need; Orion answers when you send. A take runs up to about a minute; send and carry on for more.
- Text — type in the question box. Enter sends; Shift+ plus Enter starts a new line.
Long pauses of three seconds or more belong to Push to talk. If Orion answers before you have finished, choose Push to talk under Input, above the speak button.
